Workers put the Defenders Monument back in its place in the median on Center Street across from the Brown County Courthouse in New Ulm on Thursday. The monument, which dates back to 1891, was re-dedicated in August 2012 in conjunction with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the U.S-Dakota War of 1862. It was taken down to be repaired shortly afterward. The Minnesota Historical Society supervised the repairs. The monument honors the memory of the defenders who fought for New Ulm in 1862.
