Joyce Gertrude (Hovde) Kirsch, age 85, presently of Cottage Grove, MN, formerly of New Ulm, died April 29, 2013 at her residence.
She was born September 12, 1927 in Naples, SD to Iver and Gena (Framstad) Hovde. aShe attended Naples schools. She resided in Naples and Watertown SD and Sanborn, Bellingham, Redwood Falls, Bloomington, Worthington, New Ulm, Hastings and Cottage Grove, MN. She owned and operated a General Merchandise store with her father in Naples, SD from 1945 to 1948. She worked as a bookkeeper for General Mills in Watertown SD from 1948 to 1949.
She was a choir member at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. In Redwood Falls she taught release time school and was superintendent of Sunday School at her church. She was a Cub Scout leader and Brownie and Girl Scout leader and banquet chair for several years. In New Ulm she was a Welcome Wagon Hostess, American Red Cross volunteer, member of Union Hospital Auxiliary, and Fluff and Puff Pillow cleaning chairperson for 10 years. She was auxiliary member at Sioux Valley Hospital and served in the coffee shop. She served on the funeral committee at her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Iver and Gena (Framstad) Hovde; a son Danny; sisters, Darlene Haught and Lauretta Phillips and 2 brothers-in-law.
She is survived by husband Douglas, son Jeffrey (Jacqueline) of Tacoma, WA; daughter Kristine (Paul) Morris, Hastings, MN; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 1p.m. at Presbyterian Home at Norris Square, 8200 Hadley Avenue So., Cottage Grove, MN with a reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
