NEW ULM - Dorothy Ann Schugel Breu, 88, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Western Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa from pancreatic cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Anthony Hesse celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel, in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. To leave an online condolence for her family or to sign the guestbook go to: www.mvfh.org.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Breu of Wallingford, CT; son and daughter-in-law, Willard Breu, Jr. and Cynthia of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandsons, Joseph (Jenny) Breu, Christopher (Jani) Breu; great grandchildren, Alexis, Carter, Landen, Ashley, and Luke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Hillesheim of New Ulm, Joyce Hofmeister of Marbel, Carol and James Glaser of Bettendorf, Iowa, Rosemary Mees of Mankato, Gloria and Richard Scheid of New Ulm; brother, Ohmar Schugel of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Julieanne Schugel of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Leonard Breu of New Ulm; numerous nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard Breu, Sr. on December 27, 2005; sister, Virginia Prahl; and a brother, Melvin Schugel.
Dorothy Ann Schugel was born on March 3, 1925 in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, to John Q. and Anna B. (Schaefer) Schugel. On Feb. 17, 1947 she was united in marriage to Willard Breu at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Dorothy had a life long love of horses that she shared with her daughter and grandsons. She and Willard were long time members of the Whips and Wheels Wooden Wheel Carriage Club, and Dorothy served on the Ramsey Horse Council for many years. Dorothy enjoyed long summers with her grandsons. She was a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Cedar Valley Hospice.
