NEW ULM - New Ulm's Farmers Market found its path had come full circle Tuesday with the City Council's approval of its new Monday night site behind the old Ben Franklin building at the intersection of North German and 2nd North streets.
The site is the original location where KNUJ started the Farmers Market several years ago. The site will be open on Mondays from 4 to 7 p.m. from July 15 to Aug. 19. It will coordinate with the summer concerts in German Park. This site will be separate from the Farmers Market held in Runnings parking lot on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
The new site was requested because the previous location was sold by the City of New Ulm.
The Council also approved a Simple Lot Division request by Steve Grossmann on behalf of GTI Enterprise, Inc. to allocate the divided-off land to the planned 22-unit apartment building at 2020 S. Broadway St. The project will offer upscale apartments.
In other business, the Council approved:
Putting the Park and Recreation Commission's Swim Pool Walls Vapor Membrane Project up for bids. The project will repair the swimming pool's walls, which have deteriorated with moisture seeping through and damaging the mortar and concrete. The project is estimated to cost $250,000 and $215,000 has been budgeted for it. The bids will be opened on June 26 at City Hall.
Continuing its performance measurement system survey, which is intended to compile data over years on residents' satisfaction with City operations and departments. The results are used in budgeting and in helping officials better tailor services to the preferences of residents.
