LAKE CRYSTAL - Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School senior Matt Tessmer and Sleepy Eye Unified junior Nikki Carr dominated sprints and relays Thursday at the Section 2A Subsection 7 Track and Field meet.
Tessmer, a Winthrop native who plans to major in elementary and secondary math and physics education at Martin Luther College next fall, won the 200 and 400 meter dashes and anchored the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
"This is all about running for the glory of God and supporting my teammates," Tessmer said after winning the 100 dash. "We've got a fantastic team, which makes it a lot more fun."
Carr won the 100 and 200 dashes and ran on her team's 4x200 relay team and long jumped.
Minnesota Valley Lutheran Coach Rollin Timm said his boys team has nine seniors but the girls team has just two seniors.
"We've got a good group of freshmen and sophomores, some of which placed well in the subsection team today," Timm said.
He was pleased with his team's performance despite a slow spring start due to the to cold and wet weather.
"We only had three practices a week during the first three weeks," Timm said. "That made it especially tough for distance runners to get into shape."
Full meet results were not available as The Journal went to press Thursday. Results will be published when available.
