NEW ULM - Five days after being no-hit in its first game of the season, the New Ulm VFW Silver team was able to produce a little more offense on Monday night.

VFW Silver held a 4-2 lead after the first inning, however, Lake Crystal scored in every inning and went on to win 13-8 at Mueller Park.

Alec Fischer took the loss for Silver. He got chased in the fourth inning after allowing two straight walks in what ended up being Lake Crystal's biggest inning. Cooper Forbrook came on in relief and finished the final four innings of the game.

"I didn't see a whole lot of positive things with our team," Coach Bob Skillings said. "It kind of seemed like we regressed. We had some good practices between games and we just didn't execute tonight. We have a tournament this weekend in Luverne where we will probably play some good teams. We will have some practices before hand and hopefully we can turn things around."

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning Silver was able to turn it around in the first. Three straight walks to start the inning loaded the bases and brought clean-up hitter Alex Guggisberg to the plate. Guggisberg made solid contact and Silver's first hit of the season was a three-run double to take the lead.

Lake Crystal re-took the lead with three runs in the second and added to its lead with one run in the third, four in the fourth and one in each of the last three innings.

Silver scored two runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh after a pair of odd pitching mishaps.

Guggisberg started the inning with a walk and was pushed to second when Wyatt Oelberg reached base. Then Lake Crystal's pitcher had some difficulty on the mound. The umpire called a balk on the pitcher and instructed him on how to fix his wind-up. The illegal pitch moved the runners up a base and on the very next pitch the pitcher was called for another balk, allowing Guggisberg to score. Oelberg eventually scored on a groundout later in the inning for Silver's eighth run of the game.

Silver will be back in action at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter.
