City to consider M.R Paving burn, compost site agreement

NEW ULM - The New Ulm City Council will meet today at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The Council will review and consider accepting the updated lease agreement to have M.R. Paving & Excavating run the city's compost and burn sites.

The Council previously requested a few changes to the lease to require M.R. Paving to keep its operation of the site similar to the city's current operations. One change under M.R. Paving's control will include the company selling compost instead of offering it for free. The project is expected to save the City between $28,000 and $36,000 annually, in addition to the starting rent of $5,5000 that M.R. Paving will pay the City annually for the lease.

The Council will also renew the list of general licenses up for annual renewal, including the cigarette license, taxi licenses and kennel licenses.

The New Ulm Smoke Shop, which received scrutiny when applying for tobacco license earlier this year for the former Smokes 4 Less shop, will not be part of the licenses reviewed because it has already been approved. The store will open in July.

Also, the Council and the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will review approval of sale for bonds for this year. All the bonds received the highest rating of Aa2 from Moody's Investor's Rating. The PUC will hold its meeting about the bonds at 4:30 p.m.
