"We played a week ago and we were pretty flat," Gold coach Bob Weier said. "We didn't play a poor game, but we didn't play a very good game. I thought tonight we started out much better. Jordan pitched a very nice ball game, he improved immensely from a week ago and so did the team. We got the little lead, they probably had one threat in one inning and that runner died at third. Very pleased - great base running, timely hitting, good job."
Gold started its scoring with two outs in the first inning when Meyer beat out an infield hit to score Tim Kehren. In the second inning Davis came up with a clutch two-out RBI double to score Kehren once again and Gold got its third run in the third when Pfaff scored.
After a scoreless fourth Gold turned it on in the fifth. Kannegiesser started the inning with a double and pinch-hitter Dove drove him in with a base hit. Wyatt Peterson scored on a throwing error, Kehren scored on a wild pitch and Kluis had an RBI hit to give Gold an 8-0 lead, all with one out in the inning.
Kluis scored when Pfaff hit a high fall ball to center field that was lost in the lights and Kannegiesser ripped one down the left field line that allowed Pfaff to score all the way from first to trigger the 10-run rule.
Legion Gold improves to 1-1 on the season and will plat at St. Peter on Thursday.
