NEW ULM - The Heritage Preservation Commission approved Monday an application by Jeffrey Dahms for signage on the "Stone Soup" restaurant he plans to open at 512 1st North Street in August.
The proposed signs would be placed above the store front, on the window of the door and on the backside of the building, facing the City Hall parking lot. The signage was allowed, but the Commission requested details on the size of the lettering before passing the request to the City Council.
Dahms plans to have the restaurant be a simple "home-made soup, salad and sandwich" business that will serve lunches from Monday through Friday.Take-home meals will also be offered.
In other business, the Commission approved the roughly 40-unit Eagle Development apartment complex, which is planned for the 100 block of South Minnesota Street. The project plans to break up the scale of the facade to "create visual and spatial interest." Various colors of red bricks will wrap around the exterior, and the residential decks will include decorative metal railings.
