Comfrey man dies in semi/train crash

REDWOOD COUNTY - A 70-year-old rural Comfrey man died of injuries received early Sunday afternoon in a semi truck/train accident on 110th Street, a half mile east of U.S. Highway 71.

Richard A. Utz was driving a 1988 International semi truck owned by L&S Construction, Sanborn, that collided with a train traveling east at 12:28 p.m. Sunday. Utz was airlifted from the crash to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale where he was later pronounced dead, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Sanborn Fire & First Responders, Springfield Ambulance, Lamberton Police and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the crash scene.
