NEW ULM - Katie Schwartz, 16, of Sanborn, won three main ribbon in Saturday's 4-H Goat Show at the Brown County Free Fair.
Facing down strong competition, she won in the areas of Champion Diary Goat, Reserve Dairy Goat and Senior Showmanship Champion.
She said she has been doing 4-H for 13 years due to the fun of interacting with and raising animals. She said she focuses on goats because they can be much more rewarding than other types of livestock. She compared the raising of goats as similar to a dog, but with enough livestock features added to make it also like raising a minature cow.

"They're just a lot of fun. They have so many interesting things about raising them," said Schwartz.
She showed six goats this year, and she plans to show more in the coming year. She said she wants to keep pushing herself in this area.
