PINE RIVER - Richard "Rick" Gusso, 60, of Pine River, formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth of complications from leukemia.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sally Gusso of Pine River; daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Lawrence Dickens of Eagan; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Bridget Gusso of New Ulm; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Erin and Allan Christle of New Ulm; stepsons and daughter-in-law, Jason and Sunshine Mattes of Sleepy Eye, Adam Roeser of Chanhassen; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Joyce Gusso of Florence, S.D., Terry Gusso of Webster, S.D.; and by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.
Richard Arthur Gusso was born Nov. 20, 1952 in Watertown, S.D., to Walter "Bud" and Lois (Vogt) Gusso. He graduated from high school in Florence, S.D. with the class of 1971 and then spent two years in college in Spearfish, S.D. After college, Rick moved to New Ulm where he was the manager of Freedom Gas Station. He then became an insurance agent for American Family Insurance. On Dec. 18, 1993, Rick was united in marriage to Sally Young in New Ulm. He retired in February 2011 after 33 years of employment with American Family. Rick was a past president of the Hanska Baseball Association, sang in the New Ulm Chorale, was a member of New Ulm Sertoma, and assisted in coaching baseball for Cathedral of the Holy Trinity's summer programs in New Ulm. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, sports, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, woodworking, spending time outdoors in the woods of Pine River, and spending time with his family and friends.
