SPRINGFIELD - Schwartz Farms Inc. of rural Sleepy Eye, plans to build a truck wash-and-dry facility this fall or next spring in the Springfield Industrial Park.

The Springfield City Council recently approved a Conditional Use Application with conditions for Schwartz Farms to buy 6 acres in the southwest corner of the industrial park and build a facility with two wash-and-drying bays, a high-speed drying bay, underground wastewater sediment tanks, office, storage and mechanical space.

Permit conditions include removing all wood shavings or compost from truck trailers at the wash/drying facility and storing them in a fully-contained storage unit.

Schwartz Farms employs more than 200 full-time employees, 125 independent contractors, and owns sows mostly in Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota.
