NEW ULM - The New Ulm City Council will meet today at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Council will consider awarding the $60,395 bid for the new city hall condenser unit to Feder Mechanical. The company was the lone bidder.
The Council will also hold a public hearing to modify and affirm a TIF District for 42-unit Winkelman Building Corp. apartment building project at 2107 N. Highland Ave. The TIF is limited to 25 years and reimbursements cannot exceed $550,000. To comply with TIF requirements, 20 percent of the apartments must be rented to people making under 50 percent of the Brown County median income. The modification of terms is necessary because the number of apartments increased from 35 to 42 units.
The Council will consider issuing a $4.6 million bond on behalf of Highland Regency House, LLC to help finance its 50-unit apartment project at 1520 Sunset Ave. The bond will be loaned to Highland, and the company will be completely responsible for it. The bond does not count towards the City's normal bond limit for city operations.
In another matter, the Council will consider a Tree Advisory Commission request for $6,100 to replace select trees in city parks and in the boulevard/median areas. The trees will be replacements for diseased trees. The request was made directly to the Council because the Park and Recreation Department's tree replacement budget was cut to zero in the last two budgets.
Finally, the Council will consider a request by the American Legion Post 132 to extend its liquor license to an area adjacent to building's back door. The area will used as a smoking shelter. The request will also extend the Legion's license to this shelter for 2013 Oktoberfest.
