Governor's Pheasant Opener set for
MADELIA - The Pheasant Capital of Minnesota is gearing up for two huge events on back-to-back weekends this October. Madelia will host the 5th Annual Pheasant Phes(tival) on Saturday, Oct. 5; and the 2013 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener, Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12.
The Madelia Pheasant Phest(ival) was started in 2009 to celebrate the pheasant hunting tradition in the community and to provide an opportunity for companionship and practice for hunters and shooters alike.
This year's event is by far the largest yet and begins with a massive clay shooting course on the city's nine-hole municipal golf course. The clay shooting course consists of an eight-station sporting clay range, five-stand sporting clay range, duck flurry and a youth trap shooting station.
Aaron and Steve Gould, America's hottest new exhibition shooting team, will put on a free exhibition shooting show for the people in attendance. The Gould brothers perform highly unique and entertaining live exhibition shooting shows for events across the country. The sporting clay ranges open at 10:30 a.m., with the Gould Brothers performing at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The following weekend, Madelia will host the 2013 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener with public events taking place on Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12.
"It is a huge year for our small city," said City Administrator, Dan Madsen. "It is truly an honor to have two events like this, and we are excited to share our community and what we have to offer."
