PREP FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: Greyhounds top BLHS

Cathedral 27, BLHS 12

HECTOR - New Ulm Cathedral defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in Southern Minnesota Conference action Friday.

BLHS was led by Tate Lange, who had 10 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Schulte had a receiving touchdown.

For the Greyhounds, Austin Cooper had 169 yards rushing and Jake Gangelhoff had 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Michael Skillings and Collin Helget each had a rushing touchdown.

Cathedral (4-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday. BLHS (1-5) hosts Sleepy Eye on Friday.

Nicollet 49, JWP 6

NICOLLET - Nicollet defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 49-6 in a Southern Confederacy Conference game on Friday.

Quarterback Dalton Elliott led the Raiders on the ground and through the air with 135 yards and three touchdowns rushing and 207 yards and three touchdowns passing.

Colin Bloemke, Matt Fischer, and Travis Murphy each caught a touchdown pass from Elliott.

Matt Christenson led the Raiders defensively with 12 tackles and a sack, while Jay Hendrycks added seven tackles.

Nicollet (6-0, 4-0) plays next Friday at Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman.

St.?Mary's 28, CM/C 14

MORGAN - Sleepy Eye St.?Mary's remained unbeaten with a 28-14 Southern Minnesota Conference victory over Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Friday.

The Knights got on the board in the first quarter when Brandon Helget threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to John Brandl. Helget hit Mike Hirsch for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and David Surprenant scored on a 5-yard run for the Knights later in the quarter.

Surprenant later added a 4-yard run for a touchdown. He finished with 89 yards rushing.

Helget passed for 107 yards and two touchdowns and Chandler Rose threw for 80 yards for the Cougars.

Andrew Richter had a 4-yard rushing touchdown and Brady Kerkhoff had a 1-yard rush for a touchdown for the Cougars. Josh Green had 69 yards receiving.

The St. Mary's (6-0) win sets up a big battle with unbeaten Wabasso next Friday in Sleepy Eye. CM/C (1-5) is at Red Rock Central (1-5) on Friday.

LCWM 33, GFW 12

WINTHROP - Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop fell to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 33-12 in a Gopher Valley Conference game on Friday.

The Thunderbirds were led on offense by Tristan Schmidt and Leighton Messner with 75 and 59 yards rushing, respectively.

Schmidt also led the team on defense with 13 tackles. Kolton Pingom added eight tackles and an interception.

GFW (0-6, 0-4) plays again next Friday when it travels to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity.

Madelia/Cleveland susp.

MADELIA - Madelia was leading Cleveland 16-0 at halftime in a Southern Confederacy Conference football game when lightning forced the game to be postponed. The two teams will resume the game today at noon.
