WABASSO?- The Wabasso football team defeated No. 3-seeded MacCray 42-6 in the Section 5A semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The Rabbits (9-1, 7-1 SMC) were led by running back Tanner Bock, who ran for 166 yards off 33 carries for three rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Neil?Eichten was 6-for-7 for 135 yards and two touchdowns from behind center. T.J. Fulton and Dirk Pistulka each hauled in a receiving touchdown.
No. 2-seeded Wabasso will now play No. 1-seeded Dawson-Boyd for the Section 5A title at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 in Marshall.
Madelia 36, GHEC/Truman 30
GRANADA?- Madelia defeated GHEC/Truman 36-30 in the Section 2 9-man semifinals on Saturday.
The Blackhawks (8-2,
6-2 Southern?Confederacy?Conference) held a 28-8 lead going into halftime after rushing touchdowns by running back Derrick Van Hee (40 yards) and quarterback Kyle Schultz (3 yards) along with two passing touchdowns by Schultz to Jack?Bergeman (46 yards) and Jake Denn (31 yards).
However, the Jaguars (6-4, 5-3) were able to force four Madelia turnovers in the second half en route to taking a 30-28 lead with eight minutes to go in regulation.
Madelia was able to pull out the victory with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Schultz to Riley Benzel with 1:15 to go in the game to win 36-30.
Madelia will face its rival Nicollet (10-0, 8-0) in the Section 2 championship game at 7 p.m. this Friday at Nicollet High School.
