Council approves FAA agreement

NEW ULM - The New Ulm City Council breezed through a light agenda on Tuesday, approving all business in seven minutes.

The council OK'd an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration to have the FAA conduct a flight inspection new lighting and path identification systems that are part of the New Ulm Municipal Airport's runway extension.

Improvements to the runway included the installation of a medium intensity approach lighting system and a precision approach path indicator system.

The FAA must perform a flight inspection to officially certify and authorize their use.

The city will pay $6,099.24 as an advance payment for the inspection, but will be reimbursed for 90 percent of the actual cost as part of the State and Federal Airport Grant process.

The council authorized the application for funding through the Area Transportation Partnership to fund part of a Valley Street reconstruction project from 12th South Street to 20th South Street. The application will be for the 2015-2018 fiscal year period. The funds come from the federal government's gasoline tax revenue that is returned to the states. The Area Transportation Improvement Program takes applications from cities in the seven Minnesota transportation districts and the metropolitan area.

In the past, he cit received up to 80 percent of the eligible project cost for one city project each fiscal year, up to a maximum of $1.58 million.

The Council approved a liquor license transfer requested by Lacy Leuth, owner of Lola's Larkspur Market. The license will be transferred from Lola's Larkspur Market, LLC, to Lola, Inc.

The Council also approved the alley closure requested by B&L Bar owner Jeff Gulden for Feb. 28 through March 2, during the Fasching and Bockfest weekend. The council also authorized the temporary extension of the B&L's liquor license during the closure period.
