PREP BASKETBALL: Madelia folds lead late, loses 64-63

Glenville-Emmons 64, Madelia boys 63

MADELIA - Madelia was hindered by 12-of-30 free-throw shooting as it let a three-point lead with one minute to go slip away in a loss to Glenville-Emmons 64-63 in a nonconference boy's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

Ten of the misses from the free-throw line came in the first half for the Blackhawks (7-11, 4-5 Valley).

Derrick Van Hee was fouled with 30 seconds remaining in the game, but missed both free throws. Aaron Dempewolf was fouled with 0:03 on the clock and sank both free throws to give the Wolverines (6-11, 3-8 Southeast) the lead and eventual victory.

Van Hee finished with a team-high 23 points, nine of which were the result of three 3-pointers in the first half. Jack Bergeman had 14 points and was 2-of-7 in free throws, while Kyle Schultz added 10 and was 2-of-9. Jordan Henry contributed nine points - all from three 3-pointers in the second half.

Madelia will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in a nonconference game.

W-E-M 64, MVL girls 42

WATERVILLE - The Minnesota Valley Lutheran girl's basketball team lost to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 64-42 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Anna Munsen led the Chargers (10-5, 6-3 Tomahawk) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Johanna Kettner added 11 points.

MVL will host Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

GHEC/Truman 55, Springfield girls 50

EAST CHAIN - Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman defeated Springfield 55-50 in a nonconference girl's basketball game on Saturday.

Joeli Arnoldi led the Tigers (6-7, 5-4 Tomahawk) with 19 points, four assists and five steals. Therese Roiger added 10 points for the Tigers.

Springfield hosts Cedar Mountain/Comfrey at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
