To the editor:
The front page story in Tuesday's Journal, has a headline about the perceived need for a water park in New Ulm. Who is kidding whom?
Residents of New Ulm are truly some of the most fortunate people in the entire world and, yet, some want more.
Residents of the metro area would laugh at you if you complained that the nearest water park was 15 minutes away, or that the nearest major university was a half hour distant, or that the nearest casino was about a half hour away. There are many, many facilities available to New Ulm area residents, including many employment opportunities that also are within a half hour drive, and that should be appreciated.
An alternative to a city water park in New Ulm would be to build your own in your back yard. Obviously, the cost is likely prohibitive - but then that cost resulting in higher taxes for construction and on-going maintenance should not be passed on to the majority who may never use the facility.
Let's support Sleepy Eye's investment in their water park while we use our fantastic year-round pool and our unique summer "water park" at Flandrau State Park.
