NEW ULM Martin Luther College junior Hannah Hackbarth broke the record for all-time 3-pointers as the Knights routed Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Crown College 83-46 on Friday night.
"I actually didn't even know they announced it until someone leaned over and congratulated me, but it feels good," Hackbarth said.
Hackbarth now has 153 career 3-point baskets, breaking the previous record of 152 which was held by Sarah Free.
The Knights were a little slow getting things started in the first half, but when they finally did get going there was no slowing down.
"We just had to get our energy going," Hackbarth said.
Tied 10-10 with 13:30 remaining in the first half, MLC went on a 13-2 run and then a 12-0 run to break the game open and give it a 45-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Knights dominated the second half, who quickly extended their lead to 30 points. When the final buzzer sounded the Knights were leading 83-46.
All 13 MLC players saw the floor in the win and 12 of the 13 recorded points.
Four Knights were in double figures. Leah Nass, Alex Anthon and Brittney Gossen had 12 points each to lead MLC in scoring, while Faith Schroeder added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hackbarth scored nine points on three 3-pointers in her record breaking performance. Junior Sara Willems added eight points.
The Knights (13-11, 10-3) wrap up regular-season play Saturday with a home game against the University of Minnesota-Morris.
