NEW ULM - Spring brings a changing of the season and a changing of the wardrobe. Those looking for assistance in transitioning from winter coats to warm weather apparel need look no further than downtown New Ulm.
The inaugural Boutique Week, organized by New Ulm Business and Retail Association, starts Wednesday, April 2 and continues through Saturday, April 5. Eleven shops will participate.
Curt Lambrecht, owner of Lambrecht's, cited the number of new shops as the inspiration for Boutique Week. "It's an interesting time in New Ulm, and a great area of growth," he said.

Semblance Boutique, owned by Bobbie Barron (pictured), is one of 11 businesses participating in ‘Boutique Week.’
Robin Huber of Lambrecht’s displays some of the clothing items that may be modeled at the Friday, April 4, fashion show at the New Ulm Event Center in conjunction with ‘Boutique Week.’
Although Lambrecht's is one of the established businesses, the event will also benefit the store. Lambrecht said the store had gone through transitions over the years and this event is an opportunity to show the public what the shop has to offer. While many think of Lambrecht's as a gift shop, it also sells women's fashion and the jewelry and has a floral gallery.
Each shop will do something special. For example: A to Zinnia is offering classes on planting; Thimble Box, a quilt shop, will hold a make-and-take demonstration; and Splendid Nest is hosting a jewelry trunk show by Helen Wang on Saturday afternoon.
Bobbie Barron of Semblance Boutique will hold a discussion on creating a well-defined closet. Barron said that over the years she has acquired a lot of clothes but still felt like she had nothing to wear. She then realized that her current wardrobe did not match her personal taste. "I like neutrals in black and white and oddly that was missing from my wardrobe," she said.
Barron advocates shopping smart. "I think it is something every woman struggles with," she said. "We need to step back and decide what works for us rather then going for what is on sale."
Semblance opened last fall in the lower level of Lola's Market. Barron is excited to work with her fellow shop owners. It's "awesome to do something like this in town to get people involved in the new stores. It is also a chance for the store owners to become acquainted," she said.
Boutique Week will conclude with a fashion show on Friday, April 4 at the New Ulm Event Center. It will feature Lambrecht's, Splendid Nest, Gallery 512 and Semblance. It will be a runway style show, and each boutique will feature 16 spring looks.
The show starts at 7 p.m., with a social hour at 6:15 p.m. On Friday, all participating stores will remain open until 9 p.m.
On Saturday, a Jewelry and Accessories Brunch will be held at The Grand at 9:30 a.m. It will showcase specialty jewelry, hand bags and other accessories.
Tickets for each event may be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce and all participating stores. Each ticket is redeemable as a one-time $15 coupon on any purchase of $50 or more. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged.
