Deborah Jane Nelson, 58, North Mankato, died Friday April 4, 2014 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato after a brief struggle with brain cancer.
Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Woodland Hills Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Heiden officiating.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Indoor Columbarium.
Deborah was born January 9, 1956 to Earl and Gloria (Oren) Nelson in Madelia. She attended New Ulm High School, class of 1974, and Minnesota State Mankato. Deborah was passionate about work and cared deeply for her co-workers. She was most recently employed as Human Resources Manager-Northern Business Unit of DuPont Pioneer, Mankato. She also worked as a Business Manager-Madelia Public Schools; Firm Administrator-Biebl Ranweiler, New Ulm; Recruitment & Retention Manager-Larson Allen Weishair, Minneapolis; HR Manager-The Home Depot.
Deborah loved gardening and was looking forward to seeing her tulips bloom this spring. She loved music and attended many concerts with friends and family during her lifetime. She also enjoyed cooking and sharing her recipes with her daughters and grandchildren. In her free time Deborah also took joy in bicycling and needlepoint and was an avid reader. Deborah was a current member of SMAHRA (Southern Minnesota Area Human Resources Association) and a past member of the Minnesota Dakota Chapter of Accounting Administrators and served in office as Treasurer, Vice President, and President. Deborah was also an SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resource Management)
Most of all Deborah loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by daughters, Stephanie (John) Bernstrom of Grand Forks, N.D. and Margaret (Scott) Jilek of Oakdale; grandchildren, James and Helen Bernstrom of Grand Forks, N.D.; mother, Gloria (Oren) Nelson of New Ulm; sisters, Suzanne Neisen of Fridley, Diane Nelson of Eagan, and Patricia (Doug) Radloff of New Ulm; Nieces/Nephews: Chris Neisen of Fridley, Jennifer (Hulke) Brown of Lake Villa, IL, Tammy (James) (Hulke) Kasal of Saint Paul, Laura (Chris) (Hulke) Berseth of Saint Paul, Jacob Radloff of New Ulm, Emma Radloff of New Ulm, Jay Hruby of Madelia and Jeff (Jodi) Hruby of Alexandria, S.D.
Deborah is preceded in death by, father, Earl Leo Nelson; and brother-in-law, Steven Neisen.
