To the editor:
Brown County Habitat for Humanity is currently recruiting for an individual to become an AmeriCorps VISTA and join the global movement to build simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need. This local affiliate was selected as one of only 16 Habitat affiliates (out of 32 Habitat affiliates statewide).
Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota VISTA members work on projects designed to increase the organizational capacity of local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Positions begin July 29, 2014 and end Aug. 1, 2015. VISTA members recruit and coordinate volunteers, raise funds and secure in-kind donations, start new programs, and conduct outreach and marketing campaigns.
Administered and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program, which provides people of all ages the opportunity to serve with a community organization. In exchange for their service, VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $928-$983 per month (depending on location) and student loan deferment. In addition, after completing the one-year service commitment, VISTA members can choose to receive either a cash stipend of $1,500 or an education award of $5,645 to be used for tuition or student loans.
Brown County Habitat for Humanity is now actively recruiting for a VISTA to help with resource development and volunteer recruitment. The application deadline is May 12.
