NEW ULM - Sleepy Eye VFW pitcher Alex Sellner definitely didn't have to worry about run support in Wednesday's contest.
In fact, before Sellner took the mound against New Ulm VFW Silver, he already had a 9-0 lead, so all he had to do was throw strikes and let his defense do the work.
Everything went according to plan as Sleepy Eye (2-0) defeated New Ulm Silver 13-3 in five innings at Mueller Park.

"It was nice, pitching with a lead and its nice when the offense gives you a lead like that," Sellner said. "You can just throw strikes and the defense makes clutch plays behind you."
VFW Silver's Alex Lund took the loss. He lasted 2/3 of an inning and gave up nine runs.
Sellner went the distance for the win. He allowed two hits.
Sellner also helped his own cause by scoring three runs, two of those coming in the first inning. He also had two RBIs. Dylan Klein had two RBIs and Jared Beltz finished with three RBIs for Sleepy Eye.
Sleepy Eye added two runs in both the third and fourth innings to help end the game early.
New Ulm got on the board in the third, scoring three runs on a three-run triple by Jordan Rummel.
Sleepy Eye hosts New Ulm Gold at 6 p.m. Thursday and Silver is at Hutchinson on Saturday.
