MANKATO - The Mankato office of the Minnesota Department of Transportation continued to advise no unnecessary travel in areas along the Minnesota River.
MnDOT closed U.S. Highway 169 from Mankato to Le Sueur and State Highway 22 from Mankato to St. Peter as of 8 p.m. Sunday. Detour route is Highway 14 west, Highway 111 (at Nicollet), Highway 22, Nicollet County Road 3 and Sibley County Roads 9 and 8. Alternate routes from Mankato to the Twin Cities include Highway 14 or Highway 60 east to I-35 north.
Other closed highways are Highway 19 from Henderson to Highway 169, Highway 93 from Henderson to Highway 169 and to Le Sueur and Highway 99 east at St. Peter near the Minnesota River bridge.
Highway restrictions were removed on Highways 22 in Gaylord and 19 west of Gaylord.
Motorists are advised not to drive around barricades or into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your vehicle, abandon it and move to higher ground, if you can do so safety.
When a road is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail, plus other expenses and penalties may apply.
