NEW ULM - Liam Kelly, age 22, of New Ulm passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with Father Samuel Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Soldier's Rest in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Military Honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor. Memorial Salute to be fired by The New Ulm Battery.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Liam Patrick Kelly was born on Feb. 17, 1992, in New Ulm. He was the son of Sean Kelly and Wendy (Nelson) Kube. Liam was baptized as an infant at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. He received his education at Sibley East in Arlington and New Ulm and was a graduate of the New Ulm Class of 2010.

Liam enlisted in the Army National Guard when he was a junior in High School. He served his country during Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait. Liam earned the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M. Device. He received his Honorable Discharge from active duty on April 27, 2012. Liam was active duty with the Army National Guard. He was also a fourth generation member of the New Ulm Battery and the American Legion Post #11 in Mankato. Liam was also a Hometown Hero for KNUJ Radio.

Liam enjoyed fishing and hunting, Civil War Reenacting, and living history. He was fun loving, a goof-ball, and a comedian; and had a love of cars. Liam had many close friends and roommates, as well as "brothers from another mother."

Liam is survived by his mother, Wendy Kube and her husband, Wayne of Arlington; father, Sean Kelly and his wife, Becky of North Mankato; siblings, Ryan Kelly of New Ulm, and Devin Kelly and his wife, Marissa and their son, Caden of Camp Pendleton, CA; stepbrothers and stepsister, Wayne Kube, Jr. and his wife, Krista and their family of Arlington, Kevin Kube and his wife, Val and their family of Arlington, Jason Kube and his wife, Hilary and their family of Arlington, Justin Kube and his wife, Laura and their family of New Prague, Jeremy Kube and his wife, Katelyn and their family of Arlington, Ben Fleischmann and son of New Ulm, Allie Fleischmann of Hawaii, Tony Arndt and his wife, Kallie and their family of New Ulm, Tim Arndt and daughter of New Ulm; grandmother, Barbara J. Nelson of New Ulm; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and close family friend, Becky Arndt of New Ulm.

Liam was preceded in death by his grandfather, Luvern Nelson; grandmother, Edna Kube; grandparents, Stewart Kelly Sr. and Rosemary Kelly; aunt, Laura Booth-Kelly; and family friend, William Arndt.
