GIBBON - Darrell Scherer, 91, of Gibbon, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Michael Killinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. To leave an online condolence for his family or to sign the guestbook go to: www.mvfh.org.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Iolene Scherer of Gibbon; sons and daughters-in-law, David Charles Scherer, Daniel Darrell Scherer both of St. Paul, Douglas Eugene and Brenda Scherer of Gibbon, Darvin Jay and Jenny Scherer of Green Isle; grandchildren, Justin Darrell (Caitlyn) Scherer, Calin Rebecca Scherer, Brady Douglas (Sara) Scherer, Cassie Jean (Lance) Johnson, Micah Jay Scherer, Kaitlyn Grace Scherer, Jonah Charles Scherer; great-granddaughter, Kiersten Scherer; many nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nora, Lilly, Ellen, Amelia, Vera, LaVerna; and brothers, Carl, Clarence, and Arnold.

Willard Darrell Scherer was born on Jan. 1, 1923 on the family farm in Utica, Neb. to Charles and Emelia (Neujahr) Scherer. On June 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Iolene Johnson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska. After marriage they farmed in Nebraska until 1957 when they moved to Minnesota. They then lived and farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County, until 2000 when they moved into Gibbon but he still helped farm until 2010. Darrell enjoyed farming, photography and traveling. They wintered in Florida for 10 years and for the last 20 years they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Darrell was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon and Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona.
