January sets snow record
If you thought there was a lot of snow in New Ulm during January, you were right. It was the most since 1943.
There were 26.7 inches of snow recorded here the past month. You must go back to January of 1943 with 25.25 inches to find a similar snowfall.
Journal weather records go back to 1918 and the January 1975 snowfall is the most ever recorded for the first month of the calendar year.
January moisture was 2.04 inches,more than double the normal of 1.00.Moisture -from a trace on up-was recorded 21 of the 31 days.
On the good side of the weather news,the mean temperature in January was 15.8 degrees, two degrees above the normal mean. Warmest reading was 38on the 23rd and coldest was minus 19 on 14th and 22nd.
