Tuesday Postmaster L. B. Krook, when completing a resume of the past year’s business at the local post office, stated that the prospects were excellent for securing an additional clerk and carrier. Another clerk and carrier have been applied for but owing to the shortage of congressional appropriation for this purpose it is impossible to secure additional help at present. Mr. Krook states the quantity of mail handled at the New Ulm post office is growing larger every year and additional help is required to give expeditious service.

At the present time besides the postmaster, the personnel at the local office is an assistant postmaster, six clerks, three city carriers, one parcel post carrier with auto furnished by the government, seven rural carriers and two janitors. The personnel was the same during the past year as it was during the preceding one.

Total Receipts, $41,417.55.

The total receipts at the local office during the past year is $41,417.55.

During the past year Mr. Krook estimated that the number of cancellations letters and circulars at the local post office totaled approximately 2,000,000. About three-fourths of this number of pieces passed through the canceling machine. The balance was handled by hand or the stamps were precanceled.

Domestic Money Orders.

There were a total of 8,726 domestic money orders paid at the post office during 1924. The amount of same was $85,755.76. The number issued was 15,027 in a total amount of $96,849.59. The fees on the latter amounted to $880.86.

International Orders.

One hundred and sixty-six international money orders were issued in a total sum of $1,805.79. The fees were $25. The greater per cent of the or-ders were issued to persons residing in central European countries.

Eight international money orders in a total sum of $28.21 were paid at the local office.

Other Data.

A total of 7,725 parcels were insured during the past year at the New Ulm office and 4,070 were registered. There were 2,019 C. O. D. parcels dispatched from the local office.

Postmaster Krook estimated that on an average of 300 special delivery letters and packages are received per month at the New Ulm office.
