AUTOMOBILES COLLIDE ON MINNESOTA STREET
Driver Of Ford To Pay For Damage To Schlottmann Passenger Bus.
Schlottman’s bus was damaged in an accident Tuesday afternoon while on the way to the Northwestern Stations to meet the 3:30 train. A Ford touring car driven by Ed Janisch a New Ulm resident, was coming up the hill on Center street and on arriving at the top of the hill became confused as to which way to turn when he saw the bus passing in front of him and turned into the bus, smashing one front wheel, damaging the radiator and the front fender. The driver of the Ford, when he saw what had happened immediately drove away, but was later identified and was taken before local authorities where he offered to pay all damages
Driver Excited
Grant Schlotman was driving the bus from the Dakota Hotel and had several passengers who were to take the train. Driving down Minnesota Street the young mad did not see the car coming toward him in time to avert the smash-up. As soon as the man drove away in his Ford, Norbert Herzog who delivers by truck for the Red Front Grocery, followed the car in an attempt to learn the identity of the driver. After driving down Minnesota Street to St. Mary’s Catholic School. Janisch drove up to State Street and onto Washington before Herzog overtook him and made him stop his car.
Repair Bus.
Chief Harmening took the number of the car and after inquiring of the state department in St. Paul found that the car belonged to Ed Janisch of New Ulm. The man was summoned by the police and he admitted that it was his car and that he was driving it at the time of the accident. He stated that he was excited and did not realize what he was doing when he drove into the bus. The matter was settled and the bus will be repaired immediately.
