Holiday displays dazzle New Ulm
One of many people’s favorite Christmas traditions is walking around town looking at all of the Christmas lights and decorations that their neighbors have put up for the holiday season. New Ulm is no stranger to exceptional light decorations, and those traversing town are sure to have plenty of dazzling displays to entertain them.
Starting on Washington or State Street would be a good idea, as several of the houses have placed lights all over the trees and homes. Be sure to check out displays on the corners of 5th South Street and 5th North Street as you pass by. South Payne Street also has several houses well decorated, notably a “Grinchmas” inflatable on the corner of Center Street. Heading up Center Street will present the obvious new feature of New Ulm in the Christmas season, the upside-down tree right next to the statue of Herman the German.
Turn onto Summit Avenue before continuing up the hill, as some of the best light decorations can be found in this neighborhood. Make sure to peek down Southridge Road for a few extra light displays before continuing down Summit, peeking down the different roads for more and more lights.
Turn around after the houses to continue up the hill on Center Street before getting onto Hazelwood Avenue. Turn again onto Oakwood Avenue and continue down to the very end for houses, lawns and trees covered in holiday lights.
Turn back onto Hazelwood, then take Boettger back to Highland, where the houses continue to impress all the way back to Center Street to finish out the Christmas tour.
