NEW ULM — Local schools recognized National Walk/Bike to School Day with special Walking School Buses.
Students from New Ulm Middle School, Jefferson Elementary, St. Paul Elementary and St. Anthony Elementary were invited to walk to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders in groups.
These Walking School buses left from three locations around town: Turner Hall, Lincoln Park and New Ulm Medical Center.
Cindy Winters with the Heart of New Ulm Project said over 80 kids participated in the Walking School Buses, with over 30 adult volunteers helping ensure each student made it to school.
Winters said the feedback from the Walking School Buses was positive. Many of the students enjoyed the opportunity to walk to school with their friends and the drop-off points made it easier for many parents.
This is the third Walking School Bus event held in New Ulm. The previous two were held last year. The next Walking School Bus day will be held on Oct 4.
