Menzel Village on display at BCHS Museum

The Menzel Village is on display this year at the Brown Historical Society Museum. The miniature village is made up of over 1,000 pieces originally collected by Louise Fritsche Menzel. Louise and her husband Walter began collecting the pieces in 1937. The pieces come from Germany, Japan, England and Czechoslovakia. BCHS has displayed the village since 1983 with a different setup each time. Menzel’s only request is BCHS always set up the miniatures to show a horse-drawn sled with a dog following and a goose chasing the dog. BCHS youngest volunteer, Brandon Sieg points to the goose chasing the dog.

The Menzel Village is only setup by BCHS in odd number years. It will remain up this holiday season, but won’t be out again until 2021. Above, a village church choir carols in the snow for the Christmas season.
