Good day for Sun Dogs

Staff photo by Steve Grosam Journal Circulation Manager Steve Grosam captured this spectacular pair of sun dogs Friday morning about three miles south of Gibbon. Sun dogs are formed from ice crystals in high and cold cirrus clouds or, during very cold weather, by ice crystals drifting in the air at low levels. These crystals act as prisms, bending the light rays passing through them, making if appear that bright spots are flanking the sun. The temperature at the time was around 2 degrees.
