Doppeleichen demolition in downtown
NEW ULM– Demolition began on the buildings at 511 and 513 North 3rd St. as part of a property rehab by owner of Doppeleichen Vineyards.
The two buildings served as annex buildings behind 227 N. Minnesota St. The properties were add-ons to the back side of the Minnesota Street property. The existing historical building facing Minnesota Street will remain intact. The demolition is limited to the one-story buildings on the north-facing North 3rd Street.
The buildings were previously used as office space. Owner Paul Neyers’ plan is to rebuild the properties into winery production and tasting spaces. Construction of the new building is expected to immediately follow demolition.
In April, the New Ulm Economic Development Authority approved a $74,900 Commercial Property Rehab loan for the redevelopment project. The EDA provides loans based on the size of the project. The maximum loan is 50% of project cost or up to $75,000.
