‘Excuse me, bro’
Woodstone resident goes viral on TikTok
NEW ULM — Woodstone Senior Living Community has two new social media celebrities.
Resident Sylvia Reinhart and assisted living employee Brady Gluth have become famous on TikTok for a 12-second video they made Jan. 24.
The video is a recreation of another famous viral video, reusing audio. In the video, Gluth and Reinhart are passing each other in a hallway when Gluth bumps into Reinhart. In a dubbed voice, Gluth say “excuse me bro.” Reinhart — also dubbed — says “you’re excused, but I am not your bro.”
The TikTok video was one of several social media videos created by Woodstone residents and staff, but this one has taken on a life of its own. Within a few days of the video going online it received over half a million views. After a week, it is close to 3.5 million views, making Reinhart and Gluth some of the most well-known faces from New Ulm.
Neither Reinhart or Gluth expected the video to hit big on the internet, but they are both pleased it has entertained so many people.
Reinhart’s expression as she says “I am not your bro!” sells the comedy of the video.
Though this is the 94-year-old Reinhart’s first time at acting, it is not the first time she has gotten media attention. Four years ago, she and four generations of her family participated in a polar plunge. taxThe exploits appeared in several newspapers.
Reinhart’s daughter, Ramona Current, was not shocked by her mother’s online fame.
“She’s was always dressing up for things and pulling pranks,” Current said. Her mom appearing in viral video seemed appropriate.
Woodstone’s Assisted Living Director Britany Gulden said Reinhart’s and Gluth’s biggest fans were likely families of Woodstone residents. The videos posted to social media were a great chance for families to see their loved ones having fun.
TikTok videos are a great way for senior residents to still fun in creative ways while engaging the public.
Woodstone Activities Director Crystal Uys said “we build activities around what residents like to do. We get a lot of enjoyment seeing our residents participating and laughing along the way. Families enjoy seeing their loved ones have a good time.”
Woodstone will continue to create new videos for TikTok. Several videos are already in the works. Reinhart and Gluth have filmed a follow up post in which the two take part in a spa day.
The videos can been seen on at Woodstone Senior Living of New Ulm’s Facebook page or Woodstone Senior Living.
