Cathedral graduates get encouragement from commencement speakers
Told to love one another deeply
NEW ULM — Class of 2023 graduates heard words of encouragement from a number of people at the Cathedral High School 101st Commencement Ceremony at the Church of St. Mary’s Sunday.
Cathedral High School science teacher Jenny Janssen said the Class of 2023 personifies kindness.
“Show kindness to others. Treat cruelty with good. Don’t give up. It’s ok for your goals to change,” Janssen said. “Build on your foundation of faith. Never, ever give up. Be kind to others.”
Lily Brennan received the Lumen Christi Award, said to be the highest graduation award. Sydnee Helget was class valedictorian. Annie Edwards was salutatorian.
“Above all, love one another deeply. We are never too old to be kind . Use your talents and gifts for others,” Brennan said. “Remember how much a little kindness and love can make such a difference on other’s lives. Congratulations Class of 2023, we grew up with our parents beside us.”
A message from the Class of 2023 read:
“As your final year of high school comes to an end, we pause to reflect upon the many shared experiences which have brought us tears of joy. We came to this place to learn, to grow, and to share in God’s grace. With the passage of time, we have acquired knowledge, understanding, and friendship. With the support of each other and the help of many, we are prepared to meet tomorrow’s challenges. As a new challenge begins, we thank you for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and prayers.”
