Windom man dies in crash

WINDOM — A 76-year-old Windom man died in a two-vehicle t-bone crash Thursday on Highway 71, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Terry Lee Fredin of Windom died after driving a 2016 Ford Edge southbound on Cindy Street when he collided with a 2007 Peterbilt semi driven westbound on Highway 60 by Eric Alexander Murcia, 30, Springfield. A passenger in the Ford, Karen Jean Fredin, 78, Windom, had life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls. Murcia and a passenger, Baylee Machelle Barsalou, 27, N. Sioux City, Iowa, were not injured.

Terry Fredin and the semi driver and passenger wore seat belts. It was not known if Karen Fredin wore a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved. Airbags deployed in the Ford. Windom Police, Fire and Ambulance plus the Cottonwood and Jackson County Sheriff’s Offices assisted.
