Transfer of funds for trap and skeet building approved
NEW ULM — A fund transfer of $8,957.49 from the Battery Building project to the Trap and Skeet Range was approved by the New Ulm City Council on Tuesday.
The city had built up $125,000 in funds over the last few years to construct a new Battery Building. The project was completed in 2024 and came in under the $125,000 estimate at $116,042.51.
Park and Recreation Director Joey Schugel said staff have worked with Sioux Valley Gun Club to build a new Trap building. He said the current trap range building is a city facility and is in dire need of repair.
Schugel said with the recent growth of the sport of trap shooting, greater use of the facility is expected and there is potential for new funding sources. Sioux Valley Gun Club has already committed funding to a new building to match any state grant.
Schugel said the city has not contributed to a matching grant. He recommended the extra funds left over from the Battery building be used as the city’s financial contribution to the new trap building.
Councilor Warmka said the trap and skeet range was very popular and believed this transfer was an appropriate use of the leftover funds.
He made the motion to approve the transfer from the Battery project to the trap and skeet range. Councilor Christian seconded the motion.
It was unanimously approved by the council.
