Schmitz takes oath as new Ward 3 councilor
NEW ULM – Tom Schmitz took the oath of office Tuesday, officially taking over as New Ulm’s Ward 3 City Councilor.
For the last 16 years, Les Schultz held the Ward 3 council seat. In June, Schultz announced he would not seek re-election leading Schmitz to file candidacy for the council seat, which he won during the November election.
Schmitz had previously served as New Ulm’s served as New Ulm’s Park and Recreation Director. He retired from the position in April 2023 after 18 years as director.
Council President Andrea Boettger and Ward 1 Councilor David Christian also took the oath alongside Schmitz. Boettger and Christian were both re-elected to their position in November and will serve another four year term. This will be the second term for Boettger and the third term for Christian.
