Comedian David Harris returns to NU for Valentines weekend

Comedian David Harris returns to New Ulm for a performance at Turner Hall, Sat. Feb. 15.

NEW ULM – Midwest Emmy Award Winning comedian David Harris is returning to Turner Hall next Saturday for a Valentine’s Weekend dinner and comedy show.

The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 with the show to follow at 7:30 p.m.

This is a return visit for Harris, who played a sold out New Year’s Eve show at Turner Hall three years ago.

“New Ulm was a really fun,” Harris said. “It’s nice to come back.”

Harris complimented the staff at Turner Hall. He said they were great to work with in planning the show and believe the Valentine’s show be fun for everyone.

Harris said though he has already performed in New Ulm, the new show will feature some material. Harris did not want to spoil is routine, but said he recently appeared in a mattress commercial and the experiences lent itself to comedy.

“I tried to make every show different,” Harris said. “I am always working on new material and working with new friends. It is good to bring in new blood.”

Harris will once again be joined by fellow comedians Ben Marcotte and Steph Rossel.

Marcotte is originally from rural Minnesota but moved to Minneapolis in 2015 to further pursue standup comedy. He has performed across the Upper Midwest at corporate events and clubs all over the Midwest. Marcotte has participated in several festivals, including: the Minneapolis Comedy Festival, the Rise Comedy Festival in Denver, Colorado, the Charm City Comedy Festival in Baltimore, MD and the Sioux Falls Sno Jam Comedy Festival in Sioux Falls, SD.

Rossel is from Stillwater, MN but has made Minneapolis stages her comedy home since starting her stand-up career in 2022. She’s competed in the Twin Cities Acme Comedy Club’s Funniest Person Contest and was a 2023 Finalist in the Mall of America’s Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy’s Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest. This will be Rossel’s first show in New Ulm.

Harris is also a Minnesota native. He grew up in New Hope, Minnesota but has performed around the country and has found his style of comedy works well with many audiences.

“I get a lot of material from pain,” he said. “That’s a good place to start, but its good to work through the pain and anxiety before you turn it into material.”

Harris said his comedy comes from personal experiences and is not afraid to share embarrassing stories from his life.

“My goal is to make fun of myself,” he said. “The more honest and vulnerable you are, the better the comedy.” He is a believer that the more specific the humor, the more universal the appeal. “Maybe people don’t have the same experiences, but the emotions are the same,” he said.
