NEW ULM — The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus, a community of Catholic sisters living in imitation and serving as spiritual mothers in the Diocesan life of the Church host an open house 2-4 p.m., Sunday, March 23 at 515 N. State Street.

All people are welcome to come and meet the sisters, receive a convent tour and enjoy light refreshments as the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus celebrate 15 years of existence.

Established in 2010, the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus help all people find their true home in God, provide a stable presence of spiritual motherhood in the local Church in complement to the diocesan priesthood.

New Ulm is home to the Motherhouse of the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus, a young and active community of Catholic sisters serving the Diocese of New Ulm.

The Handmaids follow a long history of Catholic religious sisters who have served in New Ulm. Their communities established and ran the earliest hospitals, taught in Catholic schools and built the historical Way of the Cross.

“We are proud to be part of such a beautiful heritage of Catholic sisters who have served in the New Ulm area,” said Mother Mary Clare, the foundress and current Superior General of the Handmaids.

The Handmaids continue to grow with 36 sisters serving in New Ulm, St. Paul, Duluth and Dickinson, N.D.
