NUHS band and choir celebrate end of winter with a concert

NEW ULM – The New Ulm High School (NUHS) music department held the annual End-of-Winter band and choir concert Tuesday night.
This year’s concert began with a performance from NUHS Jazz Band. The band played “Georgia on My Mind” featuring a trombone solo from Britton Beran and “Down for Double” featuring a saxophone solor from Alessandro Enamorado.
The Mixed Choir performed song “Ye Banks and Braes” featuring solos from Maggie Joyce, Janessa Ellanson and Kierstin Griebel. Next the choir performed “Hands Are Knockin’ with solos from Emily Overly-De Leon and Ariana Mendez.
Choir Director Daniel Olson said first song required the choir to practice singing in a Scottish dialect. The second song featured solos song in Arabic.
The Oak Street Singers next took the stage and performed “Famine Song” with a solo from Josie Stade and “Stand Up” with solos from Amanda Vogel and Carly Wenninger.

The NUHS Concert Band performs “A River’s Fury” with student teacher Lionel Cao serving as conductor.
The Concert Band performed three songs “Pipe and Thistle,” “Winter Milky Way” and “A River’s Fury.” The first two song were performed under the direction of band teacher Philip Claussen. Student teacher Lionel Cao served as band director for “A River’s Fury.”
The concert closed with performances from the high school Concert Choir. The choir performed “City Called Heaven” featuring a solo from Sophie Berger and closed with performance of a Latvian song “Jumalo” featuring solos from Everett Brown, Gage Latozke and Ellie Anderson.
