Tax-forfeited land sale in Springfield approved
Springfield EDA plans to build home on Park Ave. North lot
NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved the sale of tax-forfeited land in Springfield Tuesday.
The City of Springfield requested the sale of the property at 124 Park Avenue North that was forfeited in July 2017 to the City of Springfield for $500 plus applicable fees, due to blighted condition as part of rehabilitation program.
Springfield spent $4,987.16 on the demolition of the blighted/abandoned home in 2012.
Minnesota Statute 282.01 allows for the acquisition of tax-forfeited land by a governmental subdivision at a reduced price due to blight. Since the City of Springfield has $7,987.16 in demo costs and outstanding assessments for mowing and a street project, the sale price can be set at $500.
The property is valued at $9,500.
Brown County Auditor/Treasurer Kelly Hotovec said the Springfield EDA and a developer plan to build a home on the property.
“It’ll be good to get it back on the tax roll,” she said.
Approval came on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Veerkamp, seconded by Brian Braun.
