SLEEPY EYE — A semi tractor-trailer collision with a Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad train east of Sleepy Eye Friday resulted in minor injuries to three vehicle occupants.

Sleepy Eye Ambulance, the Sleepy Eye Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Brown County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to the crash reported at 2:13 p.m. Friday.

A Wilson grain trailer was demolished. The train was damaged, according to a BCSO news release.

The semi truck-trailer driven by Robert Thomas Jewett, 24, New Richland, was westbound on Highway 14, attempting to turn into a business when it collided with a Canadian Pacific Railroad train occupied by Jeffrey Alan Schafer, 56; and Thomas Herman Behsman, 57, Madison Lake.

After the crash, the BCSO reminded motorists to use caution at railroad crossings by slowing down, stopping and listening for oncoming vehicles, never drive under or around lowered gates or past flashing lights, always look both ways before crossing, say back when necessary, have patience, do not stop on train tracks, and wait until gates are completely raise and lights stop flashing before crossing.
