Former New Ulm teacher sentenced to six years in prison
MINNEAPOLIS — A 54-year-old Mankato man who taught school in New Ulm and Sleepy Eye years ago was sentenced to 72 months in prison Thursday for distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
In federal court, Daniel John Jahnke was ordered to service five years supervised probation and pay $18,000 in special assessments that benefit minors directly impacted by such offenses.
According to court documents, Jahnke knowingly obtain and distributed images and videos depicting the graphic sexual exploitation of children.
During an investigation of a social media chatroom, an undercover law enforcement agent encountered Jahnke and exchanged messages with him from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1, 2023. Jahnke sent multiple CSAM images and video to the agent.
New Ulm Public Schools Superintendent Sean Koster said when Jahnke was an employee there no New Ulm families or students were ever involved in the charges at all.
Jahnke pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child sexual abuse material Oct. 29, 2024. The case is the result of an FBI investigation.
