NEW ULM — St. Anthony’s Elementary Fourth graders participated in “Socktober” for the 2nd year in a row and were able to donate over 100 pairs of women and children’s socks to director Nicole Schmiesing and board member Kristi Andersen of the NUMAS Haus on Friday, Nov. 1.
In addition to the socks, students took time to create uplifting messages and drawings using sidewalk chalk for the residents.
“This is a wonderful learning experience for the students because it gives them insight into the importance of helping others in our community. It shows them that life can be difficult at times and being compassionate and understanding of that can go a long way in making the life of someone else just a little better,” Fourth Grade teacher Melissa Mack said. “The amount of excitement and love my students had this past month knowing they were helping others was incredibly moving.”
