ProMusica Minnesota performance of ‘The Trout’ in New Ulm
NEW ULM – ProMusica Minnesota has announced its upcoming concert, “The Trout” at the Chapel of the Christ on the campus of Martin Luther College.
The performance starts at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16 and will feature Franz Schubert’s Trout Quintet.
Artistic Director and pianist Bethel Balge said it was “an audience favorite for over 200 years.”
“The Trout Quintet” is based on the song ‘Die Forelle,’ written by Franz Schubert, one of the most famous 19th century songwriters.
Balge will be joined by Ben Odhner, violin; Sarah Switzer, viola; Silver Ainomäe, cello; and Matt Frischman, bass.
Jenny Haugen-Hesse, a favorite of ProMusica Minnesota audiences, will perform the iconic song on which the quintet is based.
Also included on the program will be the Quintet in E-flat Minor, Op. 87 by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Using the same instrumentation as The Trout, it has long been thought that this work also served as inspiration for Schubert, and while Hummel may not be as well known to today’s audiences, he was famous in his own time having studied with Mozart and Haydn, and influenced the later Romantic composers.
Tickets are $25 for general admission and $5 for youth and students. Online ticketing is available at
promusicamn.com. Advance reservations are preferred, but remaining tickets will be available for
purchase before each concert.
