Celebrating German- Bohemian Heritage Society’s Open House

NEW ULM – The German-Bohemian Heritage Society (GBHS) is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 8 at the GBHS Research Center/Library located in The Grand Center of Arts and Culture.

The open house will include a free presentation at 1 p.m. providing an overview of the German Language in New Ulm, learning about the key distinctions between standard High German and dialects such as the German-Bohemian. Visitors will learn common phrases and words with audience participation.

Guests can also explore the overlapping identities of Germanic regions in Europe, highlighting the distinctions and connections between Germans, Prussians, Bohemians, and Austrians. Clarify the meaning of the Holy Roman Empire and how it affected the lives of your Germanic ancestors and all of Europe.

The presentation will showcase photos from recent visits to ancient villages in the former German-Bohemian regions. Highlighting preserved architecture, landscapes and local landmarks.

The open house will include treats and refreshments.

The GBHS Research Center/Library is located on the 3rd floor of The Grand. Snacks and refreshments will be served on the second floor. The presentation at 1 p.m. will be held on the first floor of The Grand.
